In our hunt for the best ramen in Chicago, I really enjoyed Ramen-San! Is it the most authentic? Not necessarily. Does it have the most flavor? Probably not. But it isn’t TOO far behind other Chicago ramen joints in terms of taste and they have great offerings including gluten free options for people in your party. The atmosphere is fantastic! I love the casual vibe playing 90s and 2000s hip hop and R&B.

My wife and I decided to check out this spot on a whim while we were running errands in the area. The entire experience was 10/10. Everything from the restaurant atmosphere to the service was amazing. Our waiter was quick with the service and super helpful explaining things since this was our first ramen restaurant we've been to. The lunch special was the perfect amount of food and variety we were looking for. The ramen itself was fantastic. This meal was one of the top 10 meals I've probably ever had. I'm looking forward to coming back next time I'm in town.

Lunch special (called “express lunch”) is on point, at time I visited it was $17.95. You get a half portion ramen of choice, half portion rice plate, miso salad, and small (2-3 bites) of the edamame hummus with rice crisps. Lots of umami and the salad was refreshing. Place has thoughtful lighting, with lights directed specifically at tables as not to overwhelm the whole interior.

After being told we would have to wait 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes, we decided to get coffee next door and hang out for that time. Not even when the barista finished making the drinks, we got the text for a seat. Annoying but whatever. Simple, modern decor and 2000s hip hop at a decent level of loudness. Not so crowded for a Saturday evening. Karage was crispy and juicy. Dumplings was pretty good. And the ramen was... Okay at best. Noodles dont really hold flavor and the broth isn't really anything special. Though the chashu was cut thick and is super tender. Definitely much better ramen spots around the city without the headache of parking around here. FYI There is a hidden surcharge in plain sight that you can turn down if you're paying attention as well.
